Welcoming message for the e-Navigation Underway Conference Asia-PacificWelcome to the e-Navigation Underway Conference Asia-Pacific 2017!
The e-Navigation is a paradigm that involves the pursuit of both safety and efficiency, based on user-driven needs, digitalized information services and communication networks. This is why e-Navigation is beneficial to all stakeholders ranging from users to policy makers.
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has adopted an e-Navigation Strategic Implementation Plan(SIP) at its 94th session of the Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) to maximize the potential of new technologies to achieve its main objectives set out in the IMO slogan "safe, secure and efficient shipping on clean oceans." The SIP aims to meet all the necessary technical requirements by the end of 2019 to allow the maritime sector to utilize the e-Navigation service starting from 2020.
The inaugural "e-Navigation Underway Conference Asia-Pacific" is to be held at Jeju island, Republic of Korea, from 18th to 20th of June, 2017, under the theme of "Implementing e-Navigation in the Asia-Pacific Region" organized by the Korean Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF), the International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation (IALA), and the Danish Maritime Authority (DMA).
The Conference will focus on technical aspects to provide the e-Navigation service not only to SOLAS but also to non-SOLAS ships, further developing the Global Test Bed cooperation for field testing of newly developed e-Navigation technologies, and seek capacity-building and regional cooperation for the implementation of e-Navigation in the Asia-Pacific Region.
For the successful introduction of e-Navigation, I strongly believe that your presence will grace the first conference and lay a firm foundation for gathering wisdom for the capacity-building of seafarers, shipowners, industries, governments and international organizations.
Once again, we look forward to having the pleasure of your presence at this meaningful event.
