Invitation

It is my pleasure to invite you to the 2019 e-Navigation Underway Asia-Pacific(ENUW AP) conference, which will be held in Seoul on 2 and 3 September 2019.

The conference is being organized by Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries(MOF), International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities(IALA), Danish Maritime Authority(DMA). ENUW AP is supported by International Maritime Organization(IMO), International Hydrographic Organization(IHO), Australian Maritime Safety Authority(AMSA) and other international organizations.

e-Navigation aims to provide harmonised information, in electronic formats, in a seamless and efficient manner, to navigational systems on board. Like other areas, e-Navigation is the maritime world’s response to the increasingly rapid digitalisation of human activity and an enabler for the 4th industrial revolution in the maritime sector.

As the organisation that has led the development of e-Navigation, IMO have an initial set of rules by the end of this year, allowing e-Navigation services to begin from 2020. ENUW AP conferences actively support IMO’s endeavours. The conference this year will focus on digital maritime services, innovations in marine navigation and communications, maritime autonomous surface ships(MASS), maritime digitalization and cyber security. The theme of the conference is “e-Navigation: Implementing New Digital Maritime Services”.

World renowned e-navigation experts from international organizations, administrations, academia and industry will participate and share their insights and expertise.

In conjunction with the ENUW AP 2019, a capacity building workshop on e-Navigation will be held in Busan from 4 to 6 September 2019. The workshop aim is to facilitate the implementation of e-Navigation in the Asia-Pacific region, by increasing cooperation in capacity building initiatives. Therefore, it is vital that representatives from the region participate in the workshop.

I encourage you to participate in ENUW AP 2019 and the associated workshop.

Thank you.

Consolidated ENUW Website Launching Greeting

22As the Secretary General of the International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities (IALA), I am delighted to launch the consolidated ENUW website portal for the series of e-Navigation Underway (ENUW) conferences, including e-Nav Underway international, e-Nav Underway North-America and e-Nav Underway Asia-Pacific.

IALA has established a tripartite of e-Nav Underway Conferences for the world to see. This includes the e-Nav Underway international which was created in 2012 in collaboration with the Danish Maritime Authority (DMA); the creation of ENUW North-America in 2012 in collaboration with United States Coast Guard (USCG) and; the creation of ENUW Asia-Pacific in 2017 in collaboration with the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MoF) of the Republic of Korea. These series of e-Nav Underway have made and continue to make significant contributions to the development of e-Navigation.

Previously, the series of e-Nav Underway have been operating standalone website network databases in which data gathered requires cohesion and unity. The consolidated e-Nav Underway website has been designed and developed with a close focus on global digitization and harmonized e-Nav Underway platform through close cooperation among IALA, DMA, USCG and MoF since 2017.

By integrating the information of each conference and standardizing the website of each e-Nav Underway Conference, the newly opened website will provide users with convenient access to a wealth of information and knowledge on e-Navigation all in a consolidated place

In addition, the consolidated e-Nav Underway website is expected to help facilitate the implementation and further development of e-Navigation through the promotion of mutual coordination and cooperation between the tripartite of e-Nav Underway Conferences.

Finally, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries of the Republic of Korea for bringing together a consolidated e-Nav Underway website and their commitment to its operation and further developmpnt in the future.
